It's been a doozy of a summer! For all of you that have missed us at the Noble Farmer's Market, we have missed you too!! We are so sorry that due to unexpected circumstances, we have had to take a step back this summer. It wasn't planned and we were disappointed but in the absence of spending our time making product and coming to market every Saturday, God has richly blessed us with forward momentum on our home ❤️❤️ A lot of our time has been spent helping this progress to not stall out and also praying, "please let this be real." I can't even put into words how many setbacks it's felt like we've experienced in 3 years (friends, 6 days from now marks 1000 days living tiny out here), but every set back, every challenge, and every inconvenience we have experienced, we have been met with grace, patience, and peace from our Father. We are not the same people who moved out here. We are stronger, more resilient, more experienced, wiser, and more patient than we have ever been. We have been shown that good things take time. We have been shown that the Lord never wastes an opportunity to show us He loves us and provides when we focus our thoughts and intentions on His Will. That if we are willing to lay our seed down in the dirt instead of hanging on to it, the Lord will faithfully water and tend to it and bring about beautiful new life. He will show us how much more than a little seed we had all along. Our dreams have bounds and we don't even realize it sometimes. But God...He knows how to take our dreams and make it so much more than you could have expected. He's a good, good Father. So-most importantly-we have broken ground on our home ❤️❤️ please pray for us during this process. I'm constantly asking myself how I can even feel overwhelmed when we've been working in this situation for so long, waiting for so long, but obviously the time and preparation doesn't change that. And please pray that the RV can hold up to us for another couple seasons 😬😬 When it rains it pours and that's absolutely been the case lately but we know if we have done it this long, we will make it.

When you are trying to move the cow to a new paddock and you aren't doing it fast enough and there's so much green "over there" and cute little tasty tender flowers...I wish he would just mow systematically. It's like, "man you can eat all of it if you'd stop wandering around...just stay in one spot until it's gone 😂😅" #cowsout #cowinthegarden

Can you spot them? Monday afternoon we had some VERY noisy birds just like totally freaking out. I actually asked Simon while watching the incoming weather, if he could re-enact that scene from Steel Magnolias to get these birds to push off. They were driving me nuts. Fast forward, Simon wakes me up after a night that we stayed up until 2am waiting out the tornadoes, and says, "I know why the birds were freaking out." "Snake?" "Yep." "Rat snake?" "Yep." "Where??" "In the tree right above the door." 😵 We all got out of bed and went outside to observe, shiver, and shriek about it being so close to the door, when Ronan says, "that one's bigger though!" And points CLOSER to the door. A branch that is stretched and touching the roof of the RV. Inches from the roof another snake, easily two-three times the size of the one we were watching, is fully stretched (5-6' long) with at least 8-10 lumps in her belly. She clearly found the bird nests, which is what had all the birds freaking out. I've never really been freaked out by snakes since having kids because they have always been so fascinated. We have studied them thoroughly and it only took their joy and enchantment to help me conquer any programmed fear I had of them. However this morning, I wasn't feeling so brave...why did they have to be hanging where they might fall on our heads when we walk out?? I joked with Ellie, "what if the tree was full of them and we never looked up to notice? We've just been living under them?" And that's when Jonas found the third one. Anyone have a spare bed? This may have broken me 😅😉😂😵

So far this year we have gotten three. They are big though! The search continues.

We had a lot of fun yesterday! We started the day with some adorable eclipse donuts Ellie made. We did a wonderful study on the the solar eclipse from @gatherroundhomeschool that included a family Bible study about eclipses that may have taken place in the Bible. Most importantly we discussed that no matter what fear and stress may come from theories of man, we have no reason to fear. The brilliance of the sun (and the Son) is never defeated or contained by darkness or shadow. We spent loads of time outside, took a walk, looked for mushrooms, gazed at the eclipse, ate outside, and just had a good time. Also, #reallife our hot water heater has been out for several days and we are still waiting on the part to fix it. So grateful for our outdoor shower. Yesterday it got to be used not only as a shower but also a place to wash dishes! I'm telling you. This bins from Costco? Never know when you're going to need them and they have been used for SO MANY things around here...the more unexpected being a kitchen sink and a bathtub 😂 Finally, gotta "love" an opportunity to watch a beautiful blue sky get COVERED in those cool "new clouds"! Only to then watch in less than an hour how an entirely cloudless sky, can suddenly be overcast! Out in the country, we don't get to see as many of those new clouds. It's good to know, "nature" finally figured out how to start producing them everywhere. Nature doesn't want anyone to miss out on the benefits, surely. 😑😑😑 One of my children walked outside first thing in the morning to the "miraculous" checkerboard of lines all over the sky and said, "well, no wonder they are calling for a cloudy day...that's annoying." See, one of the many benefits of homeschooling 😉😂

We had an incredible experience last weekend at the Okie Homesteading conference!! Not only did we get to hear a lot of people dedicating their time to be educators in topics that matter to us, but we got to meet the ultimate mentor. The uncle every modern homesteader wishes they had... Joel Salatin. After reading several of Joel's books, I'm convinced that God is using this man the way He used C.S. Lewis. He is so intelligent, profound, and dedicated to the growth of others and he communicates this so well in his writing. Plant starts coming soon!! Who has started seeds or already started getting some cold crops in the ground? Our garden is almost finished being prepped and we never take for granted the beautiful green returning to the earth this time of year. I am dreaming of the smell of tomato vines ❤️

Well, we broke those tables in real nice! For the new year we are setting a goal to gather more...and our favorite place to do that, is at the table! We have never hosted a large group of people on our homestead (for obvious reasons...) but we decided to get out of our own way and let God. It was nothing short of magical and the culmination of a dream that's been growing and taking shape for 6 years now. We enjoyed a menu full of new years traditional foods and sourced so much from local producers! Many of our goods we picked up at Conscious Community Co-op and Happy Heart Homestead Mercantile. We are proud to support these small businesses working to share what they love with those around them (and everything was so much more delicious because of it). After our meal, we set out on a "First Day" hike to take in the sights and sounds of winter. All the laughter, fellowship, beauty, and full bellies warmed us, but I definitely can't ignore that the weather was PERFECT. We were freezing all morning setting up and the sky was full of clouds. But just as people started to arrive, the clouds parted and that beautiful, Southern winter sun hung in its perfect place over our gathering. So many blessings. The only thing that could have made the day better would have been to not be missing some of our very loved ones to illness (you all were so missed). With the help of some of our friends and definitely some borrowed things from friends and family, we were able to serve many of those closest to us. Our community of those that believe in us and have gone out of their way to show it. Those that have toughed it out, listened to us cry (or groan, in Simon's case OF COURSE, he'd never cry 😉), or just simply been overwhelming cheerleaders. Many of these people have spent hours with us toughing it out physically in various ways. You are our heros, and you deserve to be celebrated. We are so grateful for the unique roles that each of you serve in our lives. Thank you for praying for us and believing in us. We can't wait to share The Table again soon ❤️ P.S. We've been working on some very special additions to the homestead the last couple weeks! And we've also had rounds of illness (impossible to cook in the RV for others when people are coughing 😵‍💫) so the work outside for the extra vitamin D and cold winter air was a welcome daily routine. We are planning to share Emerald Hills more regularly with a little more incentive to do so (who cares if it's winter, hot outside meals and sunset fires are the best 😍😍). And a special thanks to our pal @csutterfield85 for chipping in to help us reach the finish line on some construction! It was wonderful to have you with us and we appreciate your ever-positive attitude. We probably would have waited to finish that last bench if you hadn't helped us push through 😉🤩

We are beyond thankful and grateful today for the beautiful life we get to live, the bounty from creation we get to share, and for all of you that we get to share it with. Praying for a holiday filled with blessings for you and those you love.

730 days. 104 weeks. 9 seasons. Today marks two full years since we moved into the RV. We celebrated in the best way possible. Alone. Hahahahahaha, totally kidding. Everyone knows we never get away from our kids 😉🤣 it wasn't the best ever because we were alone, although that is always so needed sometimes, it was the best because we got to do our favorite thing. Eat. 😂 That's not a joke 🤷 Only 18 mins from home (y'all, around these parts, that's "up the road"), we got to nestle under the changing trees, beneath the cafe lights, next to a beautiful and fragrant campfire @donnalink3410 flower farm, while we enjoyed incredible and captivating live music. They had nature crafts and outdoor activities available to us, which I just loved. But even more importantly, we ate an incredible farm-to-table meal prepared by @fryedhouse ❤️ 11 courses y'all. Chef Fry knocked it out of the park. So grateful for people that take such pride in sourcing Oklahoma's bounty and making it accessible for people by showing them how to connect the dots between what they can pick up at the farmers market and what it can become at their table. So yes, we celebrated. Two years since we took that leap. Two years of living tiny. Two unexpected years. Many would ask us, "what are you celebrating? This wasn't the plan, was it?" Because let me assure you, while we are always grateful to know people are checking in on us and thinking about us, and we don't AT ALL mind answering the question: "how's the house coming?" It's hard not to wince. We get asked a lot and we answer it a lot. But people don't always like the answer. Continued in comments:

Another first for us. Picked up our first ever round bale of hay. We are such amateurs 🤣 but learning more and more all the time! Also, picked up replacement square bales for the RV (we line the RV around the outside in hay to help insulate it in the winter) and decided to take a hay ride with the morning light in our eyeballs (this is really important for all humans and our circadian rhythms but I especially try to make this a priority when I can, since I wear glasses). I had our Bluetooth speaker loaded onto the back of the ATV and we listened to some of our favorite music while slowly cruising the pasture 😍 core memories right here.
